Supported by the European Union, 15 partners in five countries Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia worked on its development and implementation. On both sides of the river beauties Mura, Drava and Danube, two breathtaking long-distance cycle paths have been created that allow you to immerse yourself deeply in the largest river wilderness in Central Europe and in the cultural diversity of five countries in the heart of Europe.

Explorers at the Amazon of Europe!

The Amazon of Europe Bike Trail will be the new star in the European long-distance cycle path. Why? Because it is much more than “just” a common bike trail. Because with the promise “Cycle for Nature” it opens up the largest, untouched wilderness in Central Europe along the rivers Mura, Drava and Danube, the “Amazon of Europe”. In order to protect this natural jewel and preserve it for future generations, the neighboring countries of Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia have joined forces and founded the world’s first 5-country Biosphere Reserve. And with the help of the European Union, the cycle path was realized in parallel to give people the opportunity to experience a unique nature experience and to open up new economic perspectives in harmony with nature for the regions along the cycle path with the help of sustainable tourism.

Now, just before the official opening of the cycle path, we are proud to offer cyclists, who are keen to discover, the unique opportunity to explore the new Amazon of Europe Bike Trail as true pioneers. As part of our proven format of an “explorer tour”, you will immerse yourself in the most spectacular sections, garnished with an attractive supporting program and accompanied by experienced guides and local experts in a magical and yet so little-known destination. A journey of discovery along the Amazon of Europe

We have put together a particularly attractive and varied program for the first explorer tour on the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail. Since it is impossible to get to know all 27 daily stages of the north and south route in one week, the explorer tour focuses on the border triangle Croatia, Serbia and Hungary, where the Drava flows into the Danube and with the Kopacki Rit alluvial land a particularly impressive section of the Amazon of Europe can be admired.

In addition, this area is also culturally very diverse and virtually unknown. The historical cities like Osijek (Croatia), Apatin and Sombor (Serbia) as well as Mohasz and Villany (Hungary) have so much to offer! From the mighty Osijek fortress on the banks of the Drava, to the Orthodox basilica in Apatin, to the countless wine cellars in Villany.

Even if the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail offers unforgettable views of the biosphere reserve, we have organized an impressive nature experience program to dive deeper into the Amazon of Europe: from city tours, to insights into the nature conservation program, to canoeing in the Kopacki Rit.

This extraordinary discovery journey is complemented with authentic culinary highlights, from the spicy fish stew in the rustic Charda on the banks of the Danube to wine tasting in Villany.

The itinerary in detail:

1st day | September 6th, 2021 Meeting in Mureck (AUT) or Graz (AUT) with following transfer to Mureck (AUT); Bike rental; Photo at the official starting point; Transfer to the Mura-Drava confluence; first look at the “Amazon of Europe” & insights into the nature conservation program “Cycle for Nature”; Overnight in Suhopolje (CRO)

2nd day | September 7th, 2021 Visit to the “Drava Story” visitor center; Transfer to the Kopacki Rit National Park; Canoe tour through the unique alluvial land of Kopacki Rit; City tour and overnight stay in the vibrant Drava town of Osijek (CRO).

3rd day | September 8th, 2021 Short transfer to the large Danube bridge near Erdut; On the way on the AoE Bike Trail: along the Danube to the fascinating Danube town of Apatin; cultural program includes a visit to the Orthodox basilica on the Danube; Overnight in Apatin (SRB).

4th day | September 9th, 2021 On the way on the AOE-Bike Trail: along the Danube to Sombor; Lunch break with fish stew in a traditional Charda; Visit to the historic old town and overnight in Sombor (SRB).

5th day | September 10th, 2021 Short transfer to Kölked; Out and about on the AoE Bike Trail in Duna-Drava National Park (Béda-Karapancsa); short canoe tour in Duna-Drava National Park (Béda-Karapancsa) area and a guided hike; Lunch break in the historic town of Mohacz; Transfer to the well-knowb spa and thermal resort of Harkany; In the afternoon, relax in the spa; Overnight in Harkany (HUN).

6th day | September 11th, 2021 On the way on the AoE-Bike Trail from Harkany to the wine town of Villany; Visit of the synagogue and castle of Siklos, and the Sculpture park in Nagyharsány along the way; Lunch and wine tasting in the charming Villany; Overnight in Harkany (HUN).

7th day | September 12th, 2021 Transfer to the visitor center of the Balaton National Park. On the way on the AoE Bike Trail on a particularly beautiful section along the Drava including traditional gastronomy. Overnight in Kapela Dvor (CRO).

8th day | September 13th, 2021 Transfer to Bad Radkersburg; Time to say goodbye!

The explorer tour 2021

Are you a reasonably experienced cyclist with a spirit of discovery? Daily stages of max. 50 km, without any major inclines, are not a problem for you? Would you like to discover a new destination with all its magic and surprises? And, as a pioneer, are you also tolerant when something doesn’t go right away? Then we are sure that you are right on our explorer tour!

Dates: September 6th to September 13th, 2021

Costs: Explorer price € 488, – per person in double room

The price includes: full board; rental bike*; all transfers; Nature and culture programs as stated.

*type of bike: mountain or trekking bike; supplement for e-bikes: extra charge of € 15,- per day; you can also bring your own bike if you prefer
