The route goes through a wide variety of landscapes. You start your cycle tour in Szaporca, follow the Fekete-víz waterflow to the Drava river, then head north to the core area of South Baranya, through the picturesque hills and settlements of the Villány-Siklós wine-growing area. As the area is famous for its tourism, various services are easily available, including cultural monuments, wellness, gastronomy and wine. There is also a wide choice of various accommodation in Villány. Most of the route goes on traffic-free roads such as dykes and various cycle paths. From Villány the regional capital of Pécs is easily accessible by efficient railway connection, where bicycles in limited number are also allowed.

Stage N8 of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail begins in Szaporca from where you can head to Drávaszabolcs. The route goes on the bicycle path built on the dyke of the Fekete-víz waterflow. You can take a detour from Drávaszabolcs along the Drava further on the dyke to Eperjespuszta, where Drava has a sandy riverbank, which is an excellent place for sunbathing.

Feel the relaxation and experience the past

The main route of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail from Drávaszabolcs goes on the parallel cycling path to Harkány, main spa resort of Baranya county. The local thermal bath offers a wide range of pools. In town there are several restaurants, pubs and accommodation facilities. Harkány and Siklós are connected with separate bicycle paths. Siklós is famous of its impressive castle, which offers various exhibitions and weekend programmes. In centre of the town the mosque of Malkocs-bej is visible, a beautifully restored monument of the Turkish rule in Hungary. The cycle tour from Siklós goes on the beautiful hilly landscape of the Villány-Siklós winegrowing area, through Nagytótfalu, Kisharsány and Nagyharsány. Dry sub-climate of the southern hills of the Szársomlyó hill is exceptionally favourable for wine production. The hill is a strictly protected natural area, home for several protected animal and plant species. Nearby is a Statue Park, which an internationally recognized destination of statuary art.

Experience a unique wine route

From Nagyharsány you can follow the bike trail to the end point of Stage N8 of the Amazon of Europe Bike Trail, Villány, tourism center of the wine route. Numerous accommodation, wine cellars, restaurants and shops wait for the tourists. During the year several festivals are organised, attracting large number of visitors.

Terrain to Siklós is completely flat, while towards Villány a light uphill section may challenge the cyclist, but the landscape is a definite reward.
